Betting Exchange — What are Back and Lay?
In a regular sportsbook, you place bets against the bookmaker. In a betting exchange, you bet directly against other players — and the odds are usually set by the players themselves.
Back Bet: You think something will happen. Lay Bet: You think something will not happen — here you take on the role of the bookmaker.
When you win on an exchange, the platform typically takes a commission on your winnings — no specific percentage is given here, as it depends on the platform and the market.
Example (decimal 2.00, Team A):
BACK: ৳1,000 bet on Team A — if Team A wins, ৳1,000 profit (before commission); if not, ৳1,000 loss.
LAY: Liability against a ৳1,000 Backer is ৳1,000 (৳1,000 × 1.00); if Team A does not win, ৳1,000 profit (before commission); if they win, ৳1,000 must be paid out.
